The Community Home Support Program

DAC DELIVERS THE COMMONWEALTH HOME SUPPORT PROGRAM (AGE CARE) IN DJARINDJIN, BEAGLE BAY AND, AS OF 2024, ONE ARM POINT.
THE PROGRAM HAS GROWN STRONGER OVER THE YEARS WITH MORE ELDERLY COMMUNITY MEMBERS COMING ON BOARD AND ATTRACTING MORE FUNDING TO THE PROGRAM.
We have Coordinators working in the program and their successful recruiting and signing on of new participants means that they are kept busier than ever providing nutritious meals and stimulating activities and excursions for our senior citizens.
There is a shortfall in the funding that we receive, meaning that DAC needs to provide extra Funds to run the service to a standard that suits the needs of our vulnerable old ones. DAC has supplied furniture and mobility aids to participants when the government funding doesn’t cover the cost of these items.
We also used our own fund to purchase the ‘Djarindjin Biminal Aambooriny Community Bus’. We have had this vehicle fitted out to accommodate wheelchair access and transport, with seating also for 15 able-bodied passengers. It is our plan to use the bus for patient transfer from the Communities into Broome for medical appointments.
Our hope in the coming years is to turn the old Family Centre Building, which is disused and has fallen into disrepair, into an Aged Care, Respite and Health Centre. There are some issues around tenure and land use in this area, but we are working through these issues with the relevant parties and hope to make a start on renovations as soon as we are able.
