Youth Program

Youth program

DAC provides a School Holiday Program for the children of the community. The Program is well attended with kids turning up to take part in a range of fun activities from arts and crafts to more physical outdoors activities. We have collaborated in this space with Fair Game, Funergy and Garnduwa who each deliver programs to the community kids throughout the year.

The Junior Basketball Tournament is an annual event and a fantastic long weekend for the younger players of the Dampier Peninsula. The program usually runs without a hitch, and we have to say thank you to Garnduwa for their support and assistance in running this event.

The Men's Shed

The Men’s Shed run a number of events throughout the year.
DAC recognises the need to focus on Men's mental health and physical well-being. We recognise that exercise, eating right and providing activities for our blokes in community is a good step towards healthy living, healthy minds and healthy families. We want to be better men, better fathers and better blokes all round.
A group of men from Djarindjin Aboriginal Corporation and Djarindjin Airport take part in the annual Walk for a Bloke initiative in Broome. Walk for a Bloke is a unique event for men to come together and walk 25km to raise awareness and funds for men’s mental health. The walkers tackle the 25km walk with good humour and gusto, yarning as they go. The Djarindjin contingent have a great time walking the tracks and talking to blokes about mental health and life in general. We are keen for even more of our men to participate in future events.
Walking seems to be the theme for our men. Bardi men and boys gather each year to participate in the 3 day walk and camp on country around the Peninsula, designed to promote wellbeing and cultural connection amongst the participants.
The inspiration behind these walk/camp events came from Djarindjin Elder Bundy Chaquebor, whose passion to keep culture alive is a driving force in his life. Bundy was assisted in the organisation of the events by William Hunter, Wellbeing and Suicide Prevention Manager from KAMS. The men spend 3 days walking and talking, with plenty of time thrown in for fishing and relaxing. The camp is a resounding success every year with more than 30 men attending and DAC are very pleased to support such a worthwhile cause.
