Djarindjin Airport
SINCE 2011, THE 100% INDIGENOUS TEAM AT OUR AIRPORT HAVE BEEN HOT REFUELLING HELICOPTERS CARRYING PASSENGERS OUT TO THE OIL AND GAS OPERATIONS IN THE BROWSE BASIN, SOME 200NM (370KM) OFF OUR COAST.
In 2012 the DAC Board and Members made some crucial decisions. Looking to the future, with an eye to creating better outcomes for the people of Djarindjin, the idea for Djarindjin Airport Pty Ltd was born. In the face of the skepticism of those who said it couldn’t be done, in February 2022, DAC took over the operation and management of the business we created at the Djarindjin Airport Pty Ltd, and it has been onward and upward from there. We are building a business that is sustainable and will benefit our people for generations to come.
When the decision was made to go it alone DAC contracted Regional Airport Management Services (RAMS) to provide us with expertise in airport operations, and now RAMS, DAPL and DAC work together to provide a world class service to the oil and gas companies SHELL and INPEX. We are the only civil hot-refuelling service in the Southern Hemisphere. The DAPL Crew are 100% Indigenous and are drawn from the communities of the Dampier Peninsula. They are integral to the success of our operations, with their passion, skill and professionalism becoming legend in the aviation industry. We thank them for the dedicated service they give to DAPL and acknowledge that our success is in no small part down to them. Also exciting is the fact that we are starting to see the next generation of workers coming through, so the long-term benefits are already being felt.

DAC / DAPL would like to acknowledge and thank the many individuals, companies and stakeholders that have been part of our journey over the years, we are truly grateful.

In 2024 we developed a strategic plan to map out our
future goals for the airport. We also commenced discussions with Aero Ascent, a software developer who we are working with to create the software app we are using for the airport. Together we have developed the technology and are likely to move into a joint venture to sell the product to other airports around the world. It’s the only software application in the world that is based on helicopter turnarounds.
