The Safehouse Program
THE DAMPIER PENINSULA REFUGE AND SAFEHOUSE CONTINUES TO PROVIDE A SAFE HAVEN FOR THE WOMEN AND CHILDREN OF THE DAMPIER PENINSULA WHO ARE FLEEING UNSAFE SITUATIONS.
Our clientele are women who are experiencing physical violence and need to escape at a moment’s notice. We see this as a vital service. This facility is much needed in the Dampier Peninsula and services the three major communities of Djarindjin, Ardyaloon and Beagle Bay with a total population of 1000 people.
The Refuge/Safehouse manager and staff are also involved with activities for women throughout the co mmunity. They work with a number of stakeholders including the team from the Kimberley Population Health Unit. They help to facilitate educational programs for women around fitness, health and nutrition.

The Refuge/Safehouse staff and clients are also involved in the Djarindjin Goolboo Jawal Financial Wellbeing Hub's, ‘Money Story’, working the Commonwealth Home Support Program staff and clients and other women from the community to produce beautiful silk scarves for sale outside of the community. The money made from these sales goes to the artist after a percentage is put aside to purchase more materials.
